ShadOwplay is a balance between light and darkness, not between good and evil.
May Allah bless this music that emerged from the dreamscape with power, energy and mystery that is ShadOwplay.
Hi, my name is Zam. I have been the only human creative force of ShadOwplay ever since André died in 2002. I never intended Shadowplay to be a solo project: it started as a rock band in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA back in 1989, and peaked as a collective effort as a rock trio in 1995, when the band moved to Phoenix, Arizona, USA. Life and industry tested our survival, until I was the only one left.
The music is Rock, but more accurately an experiment in all areas of Rock, almost like a dark and heavy World Music. Also, I realized in 1988 that chick singers would be all the rage today, so eventually I became a chick singer. By the Will of Allah, I became better at singing, and harnessed the voices of Karen Carpenter, Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday, and Doris Day. The beginning of this singing ability is evident in "Shadowplay's greatest hits part3: the Struggle to be Normal"(2006).
InsyaAllah, the strength of Shadowplay lies in its political influence, and studio work. Being alone during these days of internet, there is only studio work, where I play all the instruments, until I get a band together again. The music is well known to the USA and Malaysian governments, plus others. The music is also influential upon the global market system, particularly as a joint force with the fashion industry, due to the effect of the music on global grassroots politics. This is made partially possible by the influence of this website, www.mysteryrockband.com, which I started in 1998.
Then there is the spiritual, namely Islamic, element of the music. I wasn't spiritually aware when I was young, but as life became harder, Allah became my best friend, and today I am extremely grateful of that friendship, and it reflects in the music. However, it is an error to regard me as some sort of spiritual leader: I am merely a musician.
Please stay tuned, and listen to Shadowplay Radio! It seems like it will be very interesting.
